The 11th Hour

I watched this documentary last night, after watching Bush's speech on the financial crisis. I am a little depressed now. The 11th hour depicts the human footprint on mother earth and it is inconceivable to me, that there are still people out there, that don't care, are ignorant or act out of greed, regardless of the consequences, while destroying the planet we inhabit. To think that we are better than nature, or not part of it is simply ridiculous. Where would we be if it wasn't for nature? Absolutely nowhere, we would not exist. We live in such an amazing and delicate Eco system and behave like barbarians with no respect for the life we were given. Greed of the few leaves the simple person without much ability to change. This is where my frustration comes in.
The interesting thing about my timing, watching the huge debates on TV about the financial crisis and how America is gonna get out of it, masks the underlying cause of the problem. The industrialization of society, the depletion of natural resources, and the fact that we live far beyond our means, using nonrenewable energy to support our exponential population growth. A "growing economy" is what got us into this mess. More productivity, more population, more supply & demand, more money, more greed and finally more disconnection to the earth we live on. When are we going to wake up and realize we have to change our ways of over consumption, pollution and depletion of natural resources, in order to create a sustainable living environment for our kids and grand kids. As of right now, I don't think I want to put children in this world...

First Blog Post

Why haven't I thought of doing this before? I mean I enjoy writing, I enjoy reading other people's blogs, so why not have one of my own? And there I was thinking I could write short stories, let alone a novel. Baby steps! That's the way to go.

There are a few reasons why I want to start this blog. First, because I have moved from Germany to the U.S. and would like to share this experience. Since I've moved here I've worked in the customer service & the hospitality industry and have come across some funny stuff, which my mother claims I should "write down." Here you go, mom, this is for you!

Second, I love the process of writing, and the way it can make the reader feel. I like having an impact with my writing, so if you get mad or sad, happy or amused, bingo, mission accomplished.
Third, I have a lot of time on my hand where I sit in front of a computer, so what better way to reach out & express myself than blogging, right?!

I am excited about this new venture of exploring the endless possibilities of the world wide web...
